Here are just a FEW of the shots I captured at Michael & Alicia’s wedding. I don’t often photograph weddings simply because I don’t promote weddings. Every now and then I am asked from a friend or family member if I could take “a few” shots and capture the day for them, or I get calls to shoot 2nd marriages etc… The conversation goes like this…. we just want a few good shots… A FEW good shots makes me laugh. Being a portrait photographer my goal is to make it difficult to choose your favorites because you love all of them!

I have been photographing the DeMarco family for years and Ava since she was a baby. I had to go back and pull a couple of her from past years to add to this post. She was the cutest most beautiful baby and now on her Communion Day, looked gorgeous as ever. We took so many photos and she never complained! Sweet and patient!

April Fools Day Themed Bar-Mitzvah!
When I found out the theme to Brandon’s party I immediately started thinking about his Pre Bar-Mitzvah Shoot. We decided to photograph him with the intention of using his images as part of the decor in the room so the April Fool’s Theme had to be obvious in the final product. After doing some homework and googling April Fools Day, I decided to gear the session around some AFD jokes. Check out how his Mom ended up using the images. It was one of the most unique spaces I have shot at yet and one that I will always remember as “perfect in every way”. Not only was the family so nice to work with, Maya the Bat-Mitzvah girl was one of the sweetest 13 yr old’s I have ever met! The theme was NYC so for Maya’s pre-shoot we decided to head where else, NYC! Check out some of the images below.

Talent agent or a manager?
After years of photographing young talent, working with managers and agents and having a daughter that is starting out in the business, I have learned a lot about this crazy industry. In this post I will share with you some of the differences between talent agents and managers (simply put) and how to choose a commercial agency to meet with. I hope it will help you navigate some of the twists and turns of the business and make your experience a little less overwhelming. I will also share with you the importance of a great headshot.
Should I choose a talent agency for my child or look for a manager?
- Talent agents work for talent agencies and their job is to get their clients auditions.
- Talent agents offer audition opportunities that their clients would most likely never have access to without representation.
- A talent agent gets paid when their client books a job that they have arranged. Typically a 10% commission.
- Talent agents negotiate contracts and how much their actors get paid for the jobs they book.
- A manager will arrange introductions to agents.
- A manager typically takes 15-20%, Managers are instrumental in shaping a long-term direction for their client but is not legally allowed to negotiate deals.
- Managers will advise actors on their image, resume format and content, head shots, acting classes, demo reels, websites, personal appearance and overall career direction.
- There are an abundance of talent agencies in NYC that represent young actors, a manager is most likely not necessary until they become young adults.
How do I choose which commercial agency to contact?
- Look up agencies that represent kids online.
- Talk to other parents who might be a little ahead of you in the process. Look for someone who comes highly recommended.
- Send out your child’s professional headshot and resume to several agencies.
- Set up meetings with a few and after meeting with all of them, go with your instinct.
- Remember, you are hiring them.
Do I need professional headshots?
A professional headshot will open doors. It is the most important tool you can invest in that will help your child stand out from the rest. Consider it your child’s business card. A great headshot is what casting directors will notice. It’s a first impression. It must be eye catching. If it is not, they will never get to see how talented your son or daughter is. Walking into an audition with a professional headshot will tell the casting directors that you are taking this seriously, you are ready to get to work. There is nothing more rewarding then when I get a call or email from one of the parents thanking me and telling me their child landed a role or a national commercial.
